05. Best new private house

Situated almost a mile from its nearest neighbour, Kyu Sung Woo's latest project is a barn-inspired, modernist residence on the slope of Putney Mountain in Vermont. Consisting of three main volumes, it features red cedar sidings, corrugated iron roofs and thick stone walls, designed to keep the warmth in during the winter and out during the summer. Two of the three angular buildings are connected to create the main living area, consisting of a private living space and studio. The sleeping quarters are located in the second section, with the three master bedrooms kept private, while the children's bedrooms are integrated into the primary living spaces. The third structure houses storage and mechanical equipment.
