Design Awards 2010

Established in 2008 by Richard Fine and Nathan Frank, Help Remedies aims to make medicine friendlier and more accessible - a direct reaction, in the duo’s own words, to the complexity and corruption of the American healthcare system. The medicine is sold in pocket-sized packets that carry none of the usual jargon. Designed by New York-based ChappsMalina and Little Fury, the simple white packages adopt the pared-down aesthetic of old-fashioned pill boxes. Produced from moulded paper pulp and bio-plastic made of corn, the biodegradable packaging is as ethical as the tablets inside. The six fairly priced products cost $6 each and include four different drugs (for headaches, sleeplessness, allergies and an aching body), as well as blister patches and plasters that come in white only, sidestepping any attempts at skin tone matching. The sleeping aids are free from hidden painkillers, and the headache pills contain no stomach-upsetting additions.
