Design Awards 2010

Jürgen Mayer’s Dupli Casa sits in dramatic contrast to its rural surroundings in southern Germany. Spread over three floors, the house hugs the hillside like a futuristic Bond villain hideout, seamlessly incorporating interior and external spaces. The indoor swimming pool and ground-floor areas are surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, while the upper spaces are more privately encased in white-rendered concrete. The round-edged floors layer intricately across each other, spreading outwards in voluptuous curves. Inside, dark, polished wood floors contrast with white walls, the bright, open spaces echoing the exterior’s shapely form.
