08. Best New Women's Fashion Collection

John Galliano always has the ability to stir latent wanderlust with his culturally rich inspirations that span continents as well as centuries. The trigger this season came from China and Mongolia, via the turn-of-the-century couturier Paul Poiret, whose love of brocades and cocooning silhouettes turned early 20th-century Parisiennes into a generation of bohemian-inclined exoticists. It's an enticing image, and one that Galliano projected for our delectation in ikat-print samurai jackets with steely grey, bubble-shaped skirts; cheongsam-fastening brocade coat dresses in molten shades of purple trimmed with fur; and semi-sheer, long chiffon gowns in icy eau de Nil and ivory, delicately pin-tucked, embroidered and draped.
