Design Awards 2010

Restrained, minimal and functional, Big-Game's designs will always please the modernist. However, the real appeal in this young collective's work can be found in the slightly subversive sense of humour that infuses every product. The trio, all educated at the prestigious Ecole Cantonale d'Art de Lausanne, create functional furniture and household accessories that are often inspired by found objects and pre-existing forms – 2006’s Pack Sweet Pack collection featured cardboard box-like stools, while 2007's Plus is More range included a ‘blown-up’ version of the metal tube chair. This year’s Blur series centres on a blurry visual aesthetic that plays with the seen and unseen – vases partially conceal their contents, mirrors fade reflections and tables appear to blend into their surroundings. Now working with the likes of Galerie Kreo and new French furniture producer Moustache, Big-Game is firmly in our sights this year.
