In a dramatic u-turn from previous years, the mammoth Poltrona Frau group move from the main fairground to take up residence on via Savona in the Zona Tortona area.
Self named the Milano Design Village, the group's four key companies, Poltrona Frau itself, Cassina, Cappellini, Alias, Thonet and Gufram are spread over 2,700 square metres in a space designed to integrate and celebrate the length and breadth of Italian design.
This Thursday also sees the opening of Poltrona Frau’s flagship store on No.1 via Durini – spread over two floors and 500 square meters - the space is set to dwarf the original via della Moscova store.
While, on a rather more artistic note, the Alias exhibition ‘Mezzoterra Mezzomare’, at The Triennale opened this week. Produced in collaboration with Michelangelo Pistoletto, the exhibition will display over three hundred Laleggera chairs from Alias’s collection, set in the shape of six different seas – an interesting attempt to confront the broad issue of cultural integration.
