New York design store Matter opens a ’Pop-In’ shop
Most Americans will attest that there is no better way to work off the calorific excess of Thanksgiving than to exercise their credit cards. Signifying the kick-off of the holiday shopping season, the annual phenomenons known as Black Friday and more recently, Cyber Monday, have become as much of a tradition as the feasting itself.
This year, New York design mecca Matter has joined in the fray, launching its first ever holiday shop to make the act of buying gifts a lot more painless. A well-loved resourced of ours, Matter has flexed its signature curatorial skill to put together an eclectic selection of objects from its roster of designers.
Among goods like marble and brass candlesticks from Brooklyn design collective Fort Standard, an oversized rubber key ring by avant-garde jewellers Faux/Real, and new basket-woven vessels handmade by Doug Johnston, Matter will also unveil a quirky foosball set by Fredericks & Mae, the creative duo who previously turned unexpected Americana objects, like bows and arrows, into artistic compositions of materials and textures.
The design shop will also offer a chance to peruse the the latest endeavour from Jonah Takagi; a line of masculine accessories under the moniker Field, and a newly released tome, 'Carl Auböck: The Workshop', which pays tribute to the oeuvre of the Viennese master, many of which are previously unseen.
With the generous collection available to see in person and online, the reach of Matter's Holiday Pop-In store knows few bounds. Despite being devised in the spirit of giving, you might very well be in danger of finding something for yourself too.
