As the definitive home accessories fair, the bi-annual Maison & Objet has always been the major platform for manufacturers around the world to unveil their creations each year.

As we made our way through the seemingly endless halls of Parc des Expositions, the general feel of the fair was considerably more upbeat than last year. We might not quite be out of the woods yet, but all the prudence and frugality that marred 2009 for furniture and interior design seem to be behind us: what the fair lacked in exhibitor numbers (not quite back to full force yet) it made up in quality.

While we were pleased to spot new products from some of our favourite boutique brands, and several new names at that, larger companies like Christofle and Alessi made the biggest bang; Christofle continued its successful collaboration with Ora-Ito to produce a range of stunning candelabras and cigar accessories, while Alessi worked with architect/designer Piero Lissoni on a range of bathroom accessories, and harnessed the kooky-cool of Matali Crasset for a colourful baking collection.
