Reed Kram and Clemens Weisshaar set up shop together in 2002 with the intention of exploring new ways of integration between technology and the process of production. In design art terms this means creating a system that manufactures unique products. The pair’s grasp of technology is key to the success of their work, and spans many media outside product design.
This manner of working created one of the more complex but equally impressive results at Design Miami/Basel. ‘Vendome Series’ is a set of furniture that takes as its starting point a software program that generates a series of different stools, pedestal and tables, working from variables of the same geometric statistics. Pushing a button generates the dimensions of a mould, which is then filled with concrete. And so industrial manufacturing creates a series of one-off pieces.
