Australian-born, British-bred Jules Wright is the founder of East London's innovative contemporary art outlet, The Wapping Project. Launched back in 2000, the showspace boasts an impressive programme of exhibitions and instillations alongside an award-winning restaurant.
Curator and entrepreneur Wright is also recognized as one of the leading theatre directors of her generation, with productions shown at the likes of the Old Vic and the Royal Festival Hall. Wright recently launched a smaller Thameside version of the Wapping Project, with the Wapping Project Bankside, and continues to be a pivotal patron of the arts, commissioning new work from writers, choreographers, fashion designers, filmmakers and visual artists.
As curator of this year's Swarovski Crystal Palace exhibition, Jules Wright has taken the notion of the 'Palace' to heart, calling on palatial homes in Russia, Paris and Tokyo for inspiration. Each of the five designer's rooms is to be exhibited in an interconnecting space, with the final, sixth, space designated to a showcase of the most exciting Crystal Palace commissions from the past eight years.
