With NYCxDesign now upon us, we have our eye on a few events this month. Those interested in adding a few new pieces of authentic design to their collection might be enticed by the Be Original Americas Design Auction, a live auction taking place during design week.

A long-standing champion of original design, Be Original Americas is a nonprofit, focused on informing and educating others on the economic impact of original design. They do that through a series of marketing initiatives, such as this auction, as well as a newly-minted summer fellowship program.

The program, which will be funded through proceeds from the auction, offers two undergraduate students the opportunity to explore all facets of the product design process – from research and manufacturing to sales and distribution – over the course of seven weeks.

The auction will feature over 30 designs ranging from a signed Vitra 'Grand Repos' lounge chair to an iconic Flos 'Snoopy' lamp by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, as well as other furniture and experiences donated by members and friends of Be Original Americas (including Alessi, Artek, Bernhardt Design, Emeco, Flos, Fritz Hansen, Herman Miller, Kartell, Ligne Roset, Poltrona Frau Group and Vitra – among others).

Attendees of WantedDesign in New York this week will be able to register and bid using provided Samsung tablets at the Be Original Americas booth, while others can participate online via 501 Auctions. The auction began on 2 May and will run until 16 May.
