The 60-second interview

British designer Terence Woodgate originally trained as a design engineer but retrained as a furniture designer due to an interest in the purer forms of design.

His recent collaboration with fellow Royal Designer for Industry John Banard, Formula One racing car designer, seems to indicate that his interest in design engineering never disappeared or at least that it is still relevant to his work.

Their design for Established & Sons is astonishing to say the least. The carbon fibre Surface table spans 3m and has a thickness of just 2mm at the edge, but what it lacks in weight, it more than makes up for in strength.
