Emerging from the urban sprawl of Istanbul’s burgeoning business hubs Levent and Maslak is the grand silhouette of the recently opened Le Méridien Istanbul Etiler. One of the city’s newest hotels, the 34-storey tower designed by local practice Emre Arolat Architects opened earlier this year in a strategic location straddling the city’s rapidly expanding financial districts and the scenic Bosphorus shoreline. The clean lines of Le Méridien Istanbul Etiler’s three-part geometric façade are matched by sleek modern interiors exhibiting artworks from Le Méridien’s international group of LM100™ artists. As part of the hotel group’s Le Méridien Hub initiative, the traditional lobby has been reimagined into a cultural salon, displaying artworks by :mentalKLINIK and Chinese installation artist An Xiaotong, among others. Meanwhile, beyond the hotel, guests can enjoy free access to Unlock Art™ partner, Istanbul Modern, the city’s impressive contemporary art gallery housed in a former warehouse on the banks of the Bosphorus.

About Le Méridien

When Starwood Hotels acquired Le Méridien in 2005, it immediately set about injecting the group’s French heritage with a jolt of cultural modernity. With more than 100 properties in 50 countries worldwide, the project was ambitious, but with creative input from Le Méridien’s cultural curator Jérôme Sans, the result is an intelligent synthesis of individually distinct properties within their respective cultural settings. Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts have been transformed into staging areas for contemporary artworks by both established and up-and-coming artists and through partnerships with local cultural institutions, the group has forged a place for itself at the core of the art world. Via the Unlock Art™ programme, guests’ key cards designed by LM100™ members are literally a complimentary ticket to a city’s leading art forums. By any measure, the group’s elevation of the quotidian hotel experience into a cultural one is inspirational.
