SOLAR, Issue 56 of Visionaire
Books
To describe Visionaire as one of the glossies would be something of a sweeping misnomer –groundbreaking pioneer in the field of multi-format art and fashion publishing, the tri-annual periodical has, throughout its 18-year history, challenged conventional barriers in the pursuit of publishing innovation.
Issue 56 – SOLAR – will be the 2nd Visionaire to wing its way to the (specifically selected) shelves this year, and is set to be released this month. However, sticking to influencial form, SOLAR will only be available to precious few dedicated Visionaire devotees.

Produced in conjunction with Calvin Klein Collection, SOLAR is only running to a limited batch of 3,000 and will set you back $250 a copy. Produced entirely from light-sensitive paper - the same kind we got to know so well when printing our limited edition cover last month (W*122) - SOLAR is entirely Grayscale within its pristine white sheath, and the issue is designed - upon contact with direct sunlight - to develop into full multi-chromatic colour.
With contributions from artists including Yoko Ono, Richard Phillips and John Baldesarri, Visionaire have taken conventional printing and adapted it (albeit at a stellar cost) to suit their vast creative agenda.
