elBulli: Food for Thought, Thought for Food

Located in the provincial town of Cala Monjoi, lies the surprisingly unassuming elBulli - the three Michelin starred eatery that has been voted best restaurant in the world a staggering four times.
To celebrate this well deserved fact, much-lauded chef Ferran Adria, in conjunction with father of Pop-Art, Richard Hamilton and the Director of Tate Modern Vincente Todoli, will this month launch Food for Thought. Thought for Food - a dense, high-colour tome probing the way in which Ferran�s unique approach has taken him to the frontline of culinary artistry.
With a menu changing almost daily in accordance with available produce, and the pursuit of the most innovative cooking processes, Ferran was asked, back in 2007, to partake in the Documenta 12 art festival - a focal point for the book.
For his Documenta offering, Ferran invited 100 diners to elBulli for a one-off dining experience. Featuring a specifically created menu (this time, themed by oils -Ferran is one for themes), dishes such as frozen parmesan air with muesli, tiger nut milk flower, Thai pink grapefruit risotto and virgin olive oil caramel springs were among just a few of the 40-strong selection.
To paraphrase Hamilton, Ferran's status as artisan is rooted in his pursuit of the ultimate sensory experience, and unadulterated culinary pleasure.
Featuring plenty of the obligatory food porn we have come to know and love, Food for Thought. Thought for Food also features charts mapping elBulli's culinary evolution, sample menus from the restaurant's past few seasons, essays and letters from Hamilton, Todoli and others, and round table discussions between art-cum-food-world heavyweights such as chef Heston Blumenthal, artist Anya Gallacio and writers Adrian Searle and Bill Bufford.
