L'Edition Imperiale by Courvoisier

When godfathers of hip-hop Busta Rhymes and Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combes (or whatever he goes by these days) released ‘Pass the Courvoisier’ in 2001, they weren’t exactly asking for a top-up of eau de parfum.

Courvoisier is a brand of firsts. It was the first choice Cognac of nineteenth century imperial France, eventually gaining the auspicious title 'Official Supplier to the Imperial Court'. And now it is the first-ever luxury spirit brand to bring out its own fragrance, aptly titled 'L’Edition Imperiale'. Though it might seem like a bizarre move for a luxury alcohol brand, there's a strong synergy between the worlds of spirit-making and fragrance-blending, with near identical roles for the masters of each in honing and refining particular senses.

Bottled in a robust Italian flacon with detailing across the metal cap and frette, the rich fragrance has spicy top notes of coriander and cardamon, complemented by more mellow base notes of vetiver and amber. The fragrance has been developed very much in accord with the brand's heritage: wood notes are reminiscent of traditional barrels, while leather and smoked tea are reminiscent of a private club.

Now the connection between spirit-making and fragrance-blending has been realized, future options seem limitless - anyone for a drop of Armagnac by Armani?
