Fab 40: MyBestFred, New York

USA

Whilst fashion enjoys its deliberately ephemeral nature, photographic images and illustration leave powerful imprints on the mind. Now imagine a resource facility where you can spend as long as you need researching visual archives on any area of interest. 'I needed a domain name which had to be unserious,' says Molly Logan, art photography agent and creative director behind MyBestFred – an online visual gallery that has now opened a physical space in Tribeca for all to appreciate. 'I chose the smoking bird for the logo; it’s unintimidating.'

Occupying a 1200 square foot space, MBF’s impressive library shelves line the walls with rare print manuscripts, magazines, film and fashion show videos – each flanking two large tables and a giant chandelier. For a nominal fee, subscribers gain library access and four issues of their quarterly look book; December’s is curated by Terence Koh.

A bespoke service is available for project specific enquiries. Anything from rare 1960s Japanese nude portraits – Logan’s specialty – to a program of artist’s talks or organising access to select exhibitions before they open to the public. Need to kill two hours in Berlin between meetings? MyBestFred will prepare your local itinerary of cultural must-sees.
