One of the greatest monuments of international Modernist architecture is situated on the waterlogged plains of Bangladesh at Dhaka. Built by the American architect Louis Kahn between 1962 and 1974, the National Assembly Building in Dhaka forms the subject of Raymond Meier's first photographic book, Louis Kahn Dhaka.

The volume is divided into two books: the first is a collection of restored archival duotones revealing the design and construction process, the second is the result of a two week trip taken by Meier in 2002, chronicling the dialogue between the architecture, people and landscape in colour. Each book is exquisitely printed and bound with an embossed plan of the national Assembly Building on the front of each.

Speaking about the project Meier explained, 'I've long admired Louis Kahn's work. Most of his buildings have been documented extensively but this, his largest project, is rarely visited and not as widely known as it should be. I had studied the building carefully beforehand, but when I got there I was astonished by how little I knew. At the end of each day I had the feeling that I finally understood it, only to realize the next day that I'd grasped only a fraction of its complexity. It was as if each time I returned, Kahn had another surprise for me, another lesson in architecture, another window into his extraordinary art.'
