Judging awards is not as easy a task as it might seem, particularly when your decisions for each have to be reached with a partner. So we took the opportunity of asking our judging duo, Langlands & Bell, how they got on with the process…
In one sentence, what does design mean to you?
Design is the aesthetic realisation of function. Good design travels through time.
How do you see your own work fitting into the wider world of design?
Our work is an exploration of people’s intentions as they are evident in the designed world
Which award did you find the easiest to judge and why?
We found ‘the most life enhancing item’ the easiest to judge – because we were excited by the wide range of products and applications.
Which award did you find the most difficult to judge and why?
We found ‘the most life enhancing item’ the most difficult to judge – because it was hard to choose between them
What award (real or imaginary) would you most like to receive yourself?
The There Are No Rules! Award.
What was your highlight of 2007?
Constructing our new house and studio from scratch to our own design.
What do you hope to achieve in 2008?
Lots more!
