Daniel Stier photography, London
Long-time Wallpaper* contributor and prolific German-born photographer Daniel Stier has travelled far and wide for us over the years, snapping up a storm from Madrid to Washington and Samarkand to Beirut. You might also remember his recent 10-page Waiting Rooms photo spread in the September fashion issue, W*114.

But apart from his landscape, editorial, and advertising portfolio, Stier is also an accomplished portrait photographer. A new exhibition of work produced over the last decade is now on show through December at Gallery Fumi in East London. His celebrity subjects span the creative spectrum, from Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, and Amy Winehouse, to Pedro Almodóvar, Tilda Swinton, Gisele, and Damien Hirst.
In several shots he seems almost to have caught his participants unawares, as though they only just noticed the camera, or haven't yet. It's a compelling collection of work by one of our personal favourites, and a fascinating look at some famous faces letting their guard down.
