New Graphic Design in China depicts a nation struggling to fuse its own highly visual history with the expectations of Western design and consumerism and the sudden impact of new technology. The results are often delightful, such as Li Xinlu’s striking repeat pattern gymnasts or Beijing-based Studio Xaio Mage Chengzi, with their sumptuous abstract print experiments.
