Book: Octagon UFC

In our May issue (W*110) we featured a story on the resurgence of the book as an object of art, and in particular the current trend among publishers to produce beautifully constructed oversized editions, sometimes costing hundreds and even thousands of pounds.

One such volume is Octagon, a new super-sized photo book by Kevin Lynch and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) showcasing in vivid colour and rich black and white the brutality, triumph and soul of mixed martial art fighting.

With a front cover about the size of four Wallpaper* magazines and weighing more than a small child, the nearly 400 pages bring to life the scale and power of ring combat with a visual authenticity rarely experienced on paper. It’s sport as art, and an expensive treat if you can stomach the gore.
