You know the drill by now; a shelf-busting smorgasbord of artistic amuse-geueles, with ten up and coming curators signposting their tips for 100 top artists. Bolstered by a back section containing 10 established ‘source artists,’ alive and dead (Gilbert and George, Robert Smithson, Dan Graham, et al), and you have a handy guide to help clean up at next year’s Art Basel - if your back pocket can take the strain.
That said, there are some gems here, although it’s sad that the outsider art of Daniel Johnston has spent two decades in the indie wilderness before finally being claimed by the art establishment. We’re rather taken with Robert Bechtle’s blurry photo-realism and the monstrous, absurd constructions of the Viennese team Gelitin.
