Ethics are all very well but without clear guidance most small practitioners are left to swallow their principles or go without food. Good is a bold attempt to create a hierarchy of social duties for the design community, encouraging studios to grade their work according to a graphical map of social and environmental responsibilities.

Case studies investigate how current designers' work fits into the ‘spider’s web of duties’ that envelops them, while Roberts' introduction looks at the history of ethical aesthetics, including the First Things First manifesto put together by Ken Garland and others in idealistic 60s London. Good is a sound sourcebook to accompany that bolsters the new era of low-key design, where economy is pushed to the fore without compromising quality.
