In a display of the great esteem in which graphic designer Alan Fletcher was held, his friends and peers have continued his legacy, long after his death in September 2006.
Central Saint Martins celebration
‘In Celebration of Alan Fletcher’, an event hosted by Michael Wolff at Central Saint Martins in March, has produced a fitting epitaph to the renowned designer. Blank cards were sent to each guest, before the event, in a transparent envelope together with an HB pencil. Everyone was asked to write or draw something on their card, to then bring to the event, where the completed cards were displayed.

The celebration took the form of a discussion of Fletcher’s work by notables including Lynda Brockbank, Colin Forbes, Quentin Newark and Peter Saville.
V&A memorial
Six months after his death, 600 of Fletcher’s friends and colleagues joined his wife Paola and daughter Raffaella for a private memorial at the V&A at the end of May. The invitation encouraged guests to commit to paper their experiences and memories of the time they spent with him. Contributions flooded in and what was originally conceived to be a hand-sewn booklet soon became a fully fledged, beautiful book of tributes designed by Raffaella and Leah Klein, which was given to each guest to commemorate the evening.
