Based in Caltagirone, Sicily, StudioNOWA operate on the intersection between art and installation, creating a mixture of conventional building and event-specific installations. Their Piccola Perrera, finished in 2007, refurbished a farmhouse for 'agritourism', stripping the walls and windows back to create a monolithic architectural presence in the raw landscape.
Studio head Marco Navarra has a professorship at Siracusa University's architecture Faculty, and founded StudioNOWA in 2002. Emphasising the reuse of 'urban waste', his other projects include 'Picnic at the Temple', an ongoing student landscaping project, and numerous interventions into the streetscape, like the Piazza ICS, a new public square and war memorial in San Michele di Ganzaria.
