John Eggleston and Allan Farkas established their practice in 1999, and in the past decade have built up a portfolio of residential design in the American Northwest. Together with Jon Kwon, the trio have worked on a variety of scales, building everything from small cabins to generous rural homes.
The hard-wearing wooden construction of the award-winning Methow Cabin is well suited to its role as a stopover for cross-country skiers, while the Needham Residence in Washington is built above an existing concrete bunker, a solid foundation for the steel-framed house above. Theirs is a very rural modernism, never skimping on quality materials, given the often rugged surroundings, but never competing with nature in terms of formal invention.
