Fab 40: Andrea Ponsi, Florence

Italy

Following studies in Italy and abroad, architect Andrea Ponsi splits his work between the US and Italy, while keeping a base in his native Tuscany. Ponsi has a very specific interest in ecological architecture – his monograph ‘The Solar House’ on bioclimatic architecture was published in the early days of his practice.

His most recent residential work includes the House on San Francisco Bay in California’s Tiburon – a design that cleverly brings together exterior and interior spaces through a series of large glass walls and crafty blind design – and the refurbishment of an apartment in Rome's historic centre. Practising as well as teaching in Florence and at Syracuse University in the US, Ponsi somehow finds time to work on exhibition and product design as well.
