The dream of the garden city has slipped further and further from our grasp, as urban land rockets in value. Instead, a new generation of architects, designers and gardeners are combining forces to bring greenery into our lives using rather more unorthodox methods.
The book’s remit is broad, and some of the featured projects have a rather tenuous link to the urban garden (Jeff Koon’s floral puppy, for example). But as the works of Patric Blanc or Eduoard Francois attest, when architecture and plants are integrated on a truly massive scale, then the city takes on a whole new angle.
