Chris Wilkinson and Jim Eyre work in the grand tradition of the architect/engineer, their buildings shaped by the structure within them. Wilkinson Eyre's public profile has always been somewhat overshadowed by the more bombastic and PR-friendly work of the UK's architectural royalty, but that hasn't stopped the studio from creating some iconic works of their own - and for once, the word 'icon' isn't overused.
From the geometric gem of a footbridge in London's Floral Street, spanning the gap between Royal Ballet School and the Royal Opera House, to the 'winking bridge' in Gateshead, Wilkinson Eyre's work is dramatic but also deliberately underplayed.
