Markus Haberstroh spent years running projects for both Herzog & de Meuron and Christ & Gantenbein, so it's no surprise his new Basel studio is suffused with Swiss rigour and the expressive use of materials. 'We use products that might have a nice shape, an interesting surface, a comfortable touch,' he says. The Magden apartments are swathed in wooden slats, with courtyards and expanses of glass within.
