London-based artists Ben Langlands and Nikki Bell began collaborating in the late 1970s while studying fine art at Middlesex Polytechnic. The duo’s oeuvre spans everything from film and digital media projects to sculpture, installation and full-scale architectural work, delving into the complex relationship between people and the built environment, and issues like methods of mass communication. In 2002 they were appointed the official British War Artists for the invasion of Afghanistan, and their resulting work, ‘The House of Osama bin Laden’ – a computer-animated piece following their expedition to an abandoned house once occupied by the al-Qaeda head - was short listed for the Turner Prize in 2004. Today their works are in the permanent collections of everything from the V&A and the British Museum to MoMA and the Hermitage.
