Gareth Pugh, Spring/Summer '08: set by Simon Costin (scroll down to read review)
Gareth Pugh
The hype that surrounds Gareth Pugh, while bountiful, is warranted. Amidst the teems of nu-rave followers that squeezed themselves into the BFC tents, Anna Wintour sat front row.
This season, the dominatrix muse Pugh usually idolizes took on a luxuriant rave-goth feel thanks to generous embellishments of metal D-rings and flailing straps on each garment.
Pugh experimented freely with fabrics; long-sleeved body-con dresses were made out of ribbons of leather, trousers constructed from Swarovski crystals, sinister trenchoats cut from textured leather and there was even a stole made out of stuffed white mice.
As models careened down the blood-red runway, Pugh's collection, while still as directional as ever, also showed more signs of wearability than before.
